Signing of Preferred Bidder projects under the 5th Bid Window, and announcement of Preferred Bidders under the 6th Bid Window of the REIPPPP

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy is pleased to announce that an additional thirteen (13) projects under the 5th Bid Window of the Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme (REIPPPP Bid Window 5) have signed legal agreements on 8th December 2022, paving the way for additional new generation capacity to come on-line from early 2025. The Minister also announced the Preferred Bidders appointed under the REIPPPP Bid Window 6.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has noted inaccurate and malicious reporting by Green Building Publication with regard to its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) Bid Window 5 in recent weeks. he Department and the IPP Office strongly refute with the contempt it deserves the allegations and statements published by Mr Groenendaal, and takes the allegations raised very seriously.

PROCUREMENT PROCESS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY IPP PROCUREMENT PROGRAMME (REIPPPP) BID WINDOW 6 (BW 6)

Following the announcement made by His Excellency President Ramaphosa on 25th July 2022 on measures to address the current energy crisis, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (the Department) has initiated a number of steps to enable the envisaged increase in capacity to be procured under the current Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) Bid Window 6 from 2 600 MW up to 5 200MW.
